Former CEO of Business Link Greater Merseyside takes up key regeneration role

Peter Morton has been appointed as the new Director of Mersey Waterfront, the far-reaching programme set up to regenerate the Liverpool City Region’s 145km (90 mile) coastline.

Mersey Waterfront’s £91million second phase was unveiled earlier this year. The programme is funded through the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) alongside additional public and private sector sources.

Peter Morton has worked across Merseyside and the Northwest over the past 30 years in a variety of roles focused on Investment, Economic and Business Development. Most recently he was Chief Executive for Business Link Greater Merseyside.

Mr Morton’s initial focus will be co-ordinating phase 2 of the Mersey Waterfront Programme and preparing the new Business Plan to secure future funding support.

He said; “It’s an exciting time for the Liverpool City Region and an exciting time to be joining the Mersey Waterfront team. The scale and impact of the projects we’re supporting is larger than ever and I’m looking forward to helping to develop our impressive coastal assets.”

Sara Wilde, Chair of Mersey Waterfront, said; “The Mersey Waterfront Regional Park is a diverse and breathtaking coastline and Peter Morton’s strong track record in investment and economic development makes him the ideal person to spearhead the Mersey Waterfront programme as it evolves over the coming months.“
