The socio-economic profile of the area displays huge disparities between the disadvantaged communities of areas such as Bootle and Runcorn compared to the relative affluence of those living in Sefton and West Wirral.

The Regional Park must respond to the needs of these communities whilst also acting as a visitor destination.

By focusing investment on areas of need and ensuring the sensitive development of increasingly popular waterside locations, the Mersey Waterfront is a place to both protect and develop the area through sustainable growth.
