I am seriously passionate about the Mersey Waterfront coastline - if you take a journey from Wirral in the south to Sefton in the north you will see some of the most captivating and varied landscape in England. To people of a certain age, Spike Island is inextricably linked to one thing, the Stone Roses, top rockers from the early 1990s who once played a now legendary gig on the site. But of course, its history goes back much further than that.

The clocks had only gone forward the night before, and officially British Summer Time was only a few hours old, but what a difference! The sun was out, the air was warm and fleeces were ditched, temporarily at least, for a T-shirt and shorts. Southport here we come!

With Valentine's Day approaching and a few days annual leave still to take, we thought we'd spend some 'quality time' together last week, with a romantic stroll along the beach at Crosby, followed by brunch and a spot of culture at Albert Dock.
